Kayakers come to aid of Lough Hyne swimmer
Two kayakers came to the assistance of a swimmer who got into difficulty at Lough Hyne on Sunday morning.
People enjoying the weekend sunshine became alarmed when they heard the swimmer calling for help and in a scene reminiscent of Hawaii five-O the kayakers, Declan McCarthy and David Sprott, both members of the West Cork Kayaking Club, powered out to where the man was treading water near the island.
A female swimmer also heard his shouts and doubled back. She assisted the man by swimming alongside him whilst the two kayakers took up a parallel position and guided them safely to shore.
