Hilary Nunan
Mixed Media in Owenabue
Hilary Nunan is a decorative artist who creates striking paintings, traditionally framed, with a combination of acrylic and natural fibre that results in vibrantly textured pieces.
Hilary Nunan studied at the Crawford College of Art and Design and graduated with a first class a honours degree in Fine Art in 1997. Since then she has regularly exhibited at home and abroad. Her work forms part of many public and private collections, i.e. AIB Collection, Cork Corporation, Limerick County Council, University College Cork, Cork Institute of Technology, Alliance Francaise de Cork amongst others.
Colour, texture and a love of nature are the driving forces in Hilary's work. Taking a very spontaneous and intuitive approach Hilary applies a working method of building, layering and weaving a combination of natural fibres and acrylic paint while constantly exploring colour harmonies. The fibres are mulched down, incorporated with the acrylic colour and applied either by brush or pallet knife, at times manipulating the material into a thread like quality. Layers of thick rich impasto are scored and marked, overlaid in part by thin layers of translucent and opaque colour. The finished piece is very much dependant on the high quality of raw materials used.
