Daytripper - Walter Ryan-Purcell

English Market stall trader, farmer and blogger Walter Ryan-Purcell (50) splits his time between Cork city and Goleen. He lives with his wife Josephine, and their two sons Jack (12) and Tom (9).

"I live two completely different lives during the week. My work life is up in the city from Tuesday to Saturday, while on Sundays and Mondays I head home to West Cork to my family. All days start at the same time; up around 8am and into the shower. There are no lie-ins when I'm in Goleen. We have a big garden at our farm in Loughbeg that needs to be looked after, and there are goats, horses and donkeys as well. A lot of the heavy work is left for me at the weekend! My wife Josephine is also up milking at 7am every morning. And we take students, every summer from the Atlantic School of English. We're doing our damnedest to pay the mortgage. When you live in West Cork, you have to do a bit of everything.

On workdays, I live in a flat in the city and head into the English Market at 8.50am. It's a short commute, a one-minute walk. I always start the day with a cup of tea and a toasted sausage-and-rasher sandwich, usually on white, from Caf
