Rebel Rose Geary backs charity cycle
Cork camogie captain Anna Geary, who is also the city’s 2014 Rose, has backed a huge charity cycle in West Cork which will help boost the coffers of six charities.
This year’s Clonakilty Charity Cycle, which has raised more than €66,000 for local charities in recent years, will set off at 10am on September 13.
Organisers hope to raise substantial funds for Cancer Connect, CoAction, Marymount Hospice, West Cork Rapid Response, Clonakilty Special Olympics and just-one.
Radio commentator, Paudie Palmer, will officially start the cycle at Clonakilty GAA, with up to 400 cyclists expected to take part.
More than half will tackle the longer 100km route through Bandon, Ballinhassig, Belgooley, Ballinspittle and Timoleague, but there is a 50km route for less experienced cyclists.
Event secretary, Sinéad Crowley, praised the generosity of West Cork businesses which have donated refreshments and facilities for the cyclists.
