It seems to me that television is robbing us of our collective imagination. Not only does advertising defile our integrity through promoting the many bland objects we are supposed to possess in order to be considered good parents, proper citizens, adequate humans, but the range of programming on TV also manipulates us into a way of thinking about ourselves and our place in the world that is a distortion - it places us, we luminous celestial beings created out of star-dust, into a box in which we are reduced to being consumers, out inner and emotional lives rated as normal or not normal in comparison to the single dimension characters on TV shows. In truth, you could take every single TV character and smunch them all together - even all of them together squashed into one doesn't come anywhere close to the magic and interestingness of a single living human being...
